July 2005 -
The Pantheon Paperweight was the first in a series of "miniature" compositions made
for the Frommers.com monthly Hot Spot. Since the Frommers.com homepage was busy with several features and highlights, doing something different with the Hot Spot was essential in order to bring it to the forefront. A symbol of some sort or something abstract was often chosen. In some cases, where a symbol could not be found, a landmark was chosen and modified to appear in a different environment.
For the August 2005 Rome Hot Spot, the Pantheon was pulled out of its original photo and made
to look like a paperweight. To make the textures look more synthetic, the structure was
reshaded using the brush, dodge and burn tools in Photoshop. Wooden textures for the back
wall and table were scanned from real office furniture and integrated into the environment with
lighting effects and perspective.
